In the month of Bohag, different ethnic groups of Assam welcomed the Assamese New Year by observing their bihu with their own characteristics. Bihu played an important role in inculcating the national sense of consciousness. Deori Bihu is a cultural festival of deoris, one of the earliest communities of Assam. Cultural and spiritual beliefs with Bihu are deeply killed in the life of the deori people. The deities mentioned in hindu scriptures have been worshipped by the Deoris with great reverence and faith since ancient times. Out of the three games of the deoris, Dibangiya worships Kundimama, Tangpania worships Baliyababa i.e. Shivaand Bargana i.e. Tamreswari Maa. The deoris should also perform two pujas on the occasion of bihu festival celebrations. One of them is family based and the other is collective. Family based puja is also known as Suvasani or Ghardeo Puja and community puja is called Deosal or Deolaya puja.
